7. ROOMS IN A GARDEN Three sections of a large multi-level garden: A) A formal lily pond, lit at night, in scale with the wider landscape provides a focal point from the house, bordered by a semi-circle of low yew hedging. B) A pool garden was given a contemporary design to contrast other more traditional areas, with simple evergreen planting and structural detailed hard landscaping. C) a 50m long terrace, part main entertaining space, part walk to a future rose garden. Retaining walls were rebuilt, concrete paving replaced by limestone with brick patterning to reflect the static nature of the terrace and the progression along the walk. Pleached hornbeams created a living partner wall to the existing brick one.
